Here's a rundown of each lead, and girls or boys can play all roles:
Jacky Frost - is super snarky. Has a sidekick and wants to mess up Christmas for everyone. She's like a crime boss and can be played a lot like the Grinch (Jim Carey) and does have some lovable qualities. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but has tons of confidence. Gets really emotional when things don't go her way. After all the tricks she tried to pull to ruin Christmas, she figures out the true meaning of Christmas and ends up saving it.
Freezy - Jacky Frost's sidekick. Super fun and a bit slower on the uptake than Jacky. Would be awesome to play with a New York accent. Think of Gracie Allen, and that's the voice for Freezy. Doesn't really want to ruin Christmas but always does what the boss, Jacky Frost, says.
North Pole Santa - Classic Santa - deep voice and super jolly.
South Pole Santa - Also really jolly but more of a hippie kind of Santa.
Silly Milly - North Pole Santa's head elf. She's really excited and has tons of energy. Always on time and works harder than anyone.
Flapcake - South Pole Santa's top penguin. She's always ready for duty and is more military-like.
Narrators 1 and 2: Help tell the story with great expression and storytelling skills. Also, get to be other fun characters and act like a salesperson.
Other roles also available.
Jimmy Tillery graduated with a special education degree from USC Upstate and worked at Camperdown Academy for 9 years teaching music, art, and drama. Jimmy is the author of several of Encore Theatre's recent shows, including Las Vegas Santa Claus and The Beeliefs.
Encore Theatre Company exists to teach young people about theatre by allowing them to DO theatre. Our casts are made up of kids in the lead roles. Occasionally we have to use adults in a few roles, but the kids are the STARS!
ETC does two productions a year, fall and spring, with auditions/signups held in January and August.
Rehearsals are typically two afternoons per week for one to two hours each. Saturday rehearsals/parent work days are added as we get closer to opening night.
ETC is a tuition-based theatre education program. This means we charge a fee for participation and use that funding to teach acting skills in our classes/rehearsals which culminate in the performance of an original or published script. Your tuition covers teacher salaries, publisher's royalties and license fees, and the purchase of scripts, music, and materials for costumes, props and sets. Tuition is currently $210 per semester when paid at the beginning of the semester. Monthly payments are available for $75 per month for 3 months, but all payments must be made before Tech Week.
Parents have a role, too! Parents are asked to participate in set-building, costume-making, back-stage monitoring, concessions and ticket sales. We can't do it without our parents!
Summer Camps are also available whether you just want to see if theatre is for you or you just can't get enough during our regular classes. Check our Summer Programs tab to see what we are offering this Summer!
Accepting a role in a play is a commitment to your director and the other actors in the show. Rehearsal attendance is expected unless you are sick or have a legitimate reason for missing. Be here on time, ready to work to make your show a success!
